Michelle and Shamus’s destination wedding in Granada was an unforgettable experience and also my first wedding in Nicaragua. The celebration took place at Isleta El Espino, a secluded private island in Lake Nicaragua, also known as Lake Cocibolca.
I had visited Granada one year earlier, although on that occasion I was simply exploring the city as a tourist. While walking through its streets, I remember thinking how incredible it would be to photograph a wedding there. Sometimes you imagine telling a story in a particular place. Then, eventually, the right couple makes it possible.
That opportunity came through Michelle and Shamus. This American couple travelled to Nicaragua to celebrate their destination wedding surrounded by nature, tranquillity and extraordinary views.
Granada is a bright, warm city filled with character. Its streets retain the charm of colonial and neoclassical architecture. Moreover, its colourful façades, historic churches and relaxed atmosphere make it a wonderful setting for telling stories.
However, Isleta El Espino made the experience even more special. The island lies opposite Mombacho Volcano and is completely surrounded by the lake. As a result, its views and sunsets are simply spectacular.

As a wedding photographer, this setting offered everything needed to create distinctive images. The light changed constantly across the lake, while the tropical landscape surrounded every moment. In addition, the silhouette of the volcano provided an impressive backdrop.
Nevertheless, an extraordinary location is only one part of a wedding story. Michelle and Shamus were a young, friendly couple determined to enjoy every moment. From the beginning of the day, they embraced the experience without worrying about poses or unnecessary formalities.
Their connection appeared naturally in every gesture. There were knowing glances, heartfelt embraces and endless smiles. At the same time, their family and friends brought the same energy to the celebration and created a joyful party.
Everything unfolded naturally. The landscape, light and emotions came together to create an intimate and authentic wedding. Every photograph preserves a small part of that unforgettable atmosphere.
This destination wedding in Granada will always hold a special place in my memories. It was not only my first wedding in Nicaragua, but also an opportunity to work in one of the most remarkable places I had ever visited.
